Your Top New Year’s Dating Resolutions
The holiday season is over, and 2017 is officially in full swing. The New Year is a great time to assess your life, look at areas where you’d like to make a change, and set New year’s resolutions and goals to help turn those dreams into a reality. After another New Year without anyone significant to kiss as the clock turned midnight, it could be that you’ve decided that 2017 is the year you’ll finally meet that special someone, and revitalize your love life. Here are some top tips for getting out there and making it happen:
Get Up and Get Active
Recent estimates suggest that 40% of Americans will make New Year’s Resolutions (that’s more Americans than tune in to watch the Superbowl each year) and the most popular resolutions revolve around losing weight, exercising more, a living a healthier lifestyle. That means that this month your gym is likely to be packed full of new singles: why not head out and meet them? Trying a new form of fitness will not only give you the opportunity to meet new people, it will also help you to feel refreshed, revitalised, and better from the inside out. The endorphins that are released when you exercise will improve your mood and this, in turn, will actually make you more receptive to a new relationship.
Live in The Moment
Many people move into new relationships too quickly, and don’t take the time to enjoy the dating stage. This is particularly true of individuals that have recently divorced, or come out of a long term relationship, and are seeking the comfort and security that they have left behind. The desire to move your relationship too quickly could be a red flag for your potential new partner, and could also mean you miss out on the fun moments that come with dating slowly: getting to know each other, the excitement of surprise dates. If you’re looking to refresh your attitude to dating for 2017 then the best advice is to live in the moment; enjoy every experience as it is happening without over analyzing it and wondering about how it will translate into a future romance.
Just Say Yes
Looking to really kick start your romantic life with a renewed enthusiasm for all things dating? Resolve to say yes to every opportunity that comes your way. Its amazing what incredible opportunities will come our way if we open ourselves up to them, and constantly saying yes to opportunities that push you outside your comfort zone could well be the catalyst you need to let your life go in a different and unexpected direction. Don’t have a set plan in mind: just be open to the limitless possibilities of life, and keep saying yes. You’ll be amazed by where that one word could take you.
Don’t Wait For Love to Come to You
Finally, if you sit around at home waiting for your perfect partner to wander up and knock on your front door then you’ll be waiting forever. You have to be proactive and put yourself out there if you want your dating life to be a success. Stepping outside your comfort zone isn’t always easy, so start small. Challenge yourself to speak to one stranger every week: that could mean that you ask your barista about their day or that you introduce yourself to a friendly stranger in a bar. Engaging with and expressing an interest in other people is an important skill that will help you when you do meet someone you want to get to know better.
